Each summer, the Members of Guelph Area serve as Hostesses of the Mountview Women’s Institute Hall at Country Heritage Park in Milton. The ladies set up displays, look after the gardening around the hall, and put on various programs. After stumbling upon an old sock knitting machine in one of the storage attics at the park, the ladies decided to have the machine on display last year. This year, they thought it would be a great idea to hold a demonstration, so they invited Marnie Parkin to a one-day event where visitors to the park could drop into the WI Hall and observe a sock knitting demo. Also at this event was Cynthia Tromblay, who gave a demonstration on weaving. It was a wonderful way to celebrate FWIO’s Back 2 Basics theme and to connect with people of all ages!
Mountview Women’s Institute Hall represents a 1928 community hall and is meant to depict the history of the Federated Women’s Institutes of Ontario. WI Members have been involved with the hall since 1999. For more information on Country Heritage Park, visit www.countryheritagepark.com.
